L’institut francés de Seguretat Nuclear (IRSN) alerta que un núvol radioactiu està recorrent tota Europa. Les primeres informacions indiquen que la fuita dels elements es va produir en una central nuclear de Rússia o Kazakhstan, o en algun centre de tractament radioactiu. No obstant açò encara no s’ha conclós l’origen dels gasos que estan avançant pel continent europeu.

Els corrents d’aire han facilitat l’extensió del material nuclear pel continent, arribant a aconseguir la major part dels països de la zona. De moment, els únics llocs de la península Ibèrica que no han sigut afectats pel núvol són: Portugal i Galícia. La resta del territori ibèric ha rebut, en major o menor quantitat, algun percentatge dels materials radioactius.
